Week 3 Leaner Identity

1 min read

When it comes to my identity as a learner, I feel it can vary on my setting (where I'm learning at) and how I feel that day. If I'm around my friends or somewhere where people are loud and causing a distractions I may get easily distracted and not be able to focus. When I'm learning in school or other places I like it to be quiet with everyone focused trying to grasp the concept of the material like me. In my home I learn better by sitting in my room, by myself, with music playing because no one is around to talk to. On my bad or sick days it's harder for me to learn because I'm not into it how I should be. My learning identity has it's pros and cons but when it comes to important things like my future and career I can always shift my focus.

Week 2 Quantified Self

1 min read

My quantified self consists of me mainly sleeping and eating. I sleep the most on weekends and during the week I take after school naps. I also love food and eat the most when I'm with my boyfriend, whether it's homecooked or takeout. When I'm sitting in my room alone I enjoy watching Martin or comical movies. On my free time I get on Snapchat and scroll through Instagram and Facebook but I'm not big on keeping up with followers and likes/views. My favorite kind of music to listen to is hip-hop and rap and three artist's music I keep track of is Nicki Minaj, A Boogie and PNB Rock.

A learning identity is a knowledge about how one learns , their views about their own ability to learn. I can see myself as one with a learning identity because I engage experiences with a learning attitude and believe in myself. In my opinion if a person doesn't believe they can learn a certain thing they will not learn it. That is why I taught myself to keep an open mind when learning new topics. This identity can develop over time from consistently having an open mind and willing to learn new topics. This is something I've been doing for a while and it helps me to be a better student. Of course there will be times you do not understand topics but working through them only helps you grow as an individual. By learning this way you know all your strengths and what strategies help you learn the best.

Shape of Stories - "Supergirl" Episode 1

2 min read

In my Shape of Stories diagram, I chose to follow key plot points of the pilot episode of the CW show Supergirl. I plotted a clear beginning and an end, with good fortune and ill fortune in Vonnegut's style. At the very beginning of the episode, we see Kara Zor-El's home planet, Krypton, about to be destroyed - obviously placing the first plot point at the very bottom. However, she is able to escape in a pod and leave, bringing her status towards good fortune - before plummeting back down to ill fortune when her pod gets knocked off course. Her journey soars back up to good as Kara eventually ends up on Earth with the Danvers family, who take her in as their own. We dip back down for a beat into ill fortune, when we are introduced to present-day Kara and her job: personal assistant to the very demanding and obnoxious Cat Grant at her media firm, CatCo - Kara had applied to write, not be someone's servant. Her ill fortunes plummets even further, when it is revealed that her sister Alex's plane is about to go down. Kara's fortune skyrockets towards good, as she develops her powers as Supergirl further and is able to save the plane and explore her true identity at the culmination of this episode.

Shape of Stories

My diagram tells the "shape of the story" for the movie White Chicks. It shows how from the beginning through the middle of the movie it starts to go downhill but through the middle to end good things start to buildup for the movie to end positively.
